Row of Chardonnay replaced by
42 solar voltaic panels
In 2011 a state of the art commercial solar system was designed and installed to service the power needs for Rio Lago’s vineyard irrigation pumps. These uniquely configured solar panels replaced a row of chardonnay wine grapes. The 144 module system, generates enough power to run two 400 gallon per minute vineyard irrigation wells. The 240 watt modules, made by REC Solar, generate approximately 55,400 kilowatts of electrical power per year. The annual savings from this 34.5 KW system is approximately $12,000. As you can see by the photos, the design of the system is totally unique, and well suited for any vineyard.
In addition to the commercial solar system, a 6.7 kilowatt residential panel set up was installed for the ranch home site. This set up of twenty-eight, 240 watt modules, also manufactured by REC Solar, generate approximately 11,500 kilowatts per year. Saving from the ranch house set up averages $5,500 yearly. The house solar collectors are located in an adjacent cattle pasture, discretely servicing the residential site.
